About two and a half years ago I was about 215-220 pounds and really unhappy about that. Now I'm about 175-80 and pretty stoked.
Forty pounds. That's like having five babies or divorcing a midget.

I was at CVS today when this huge crush of Bronxville tweens swarmed in. While I was standing in line, I heard one of the tall, pretty girls tell another girl that eating a 3 Musketeers bar was "against our morals."
Girls, on behalf of men, I'm sorry for all the bullshit that you have to deal with. |

There's a pretty small community of high-level downhill skateboarders; and I've met many of them. These kids get all kitted out in leather jumpsuits and space helmets and such, then hurl themselves down mountains for fun. They endorse various companies' products in return for the occasional free board or help with a race entry fee.
This one kid Justin just had a bad crash (broken pelvis, major brain injury, medically-induced coma, the works) about a month ago. He's getting out of the hospital in a few days and went out to dinner with some of his friends recently.
What's funny is that he showed up in a t shirt with his sponsor's logo on it. His sponsor? Kracked Skulls Skateboards.

Death is always a tragedy; but we shouldn't let our sadness cloud our judgment. Tim Russert made $5,000,000 a year as a celebrity journalist who reflexively defended and protected the powerful people he was supposed to be holding accountable. He was revered by the establishment and a leader in the news media, but failed to use his power to offer any real challenge to the Bush administration when we desperately needed it. As a result, hundreds of thousands of people are dead, the economy is ruined, we're defending a colonial occupation from unfriendly locals in Iraq, and our entire government is being run by rightwing ideologues.
Russert had every opportunity to speak truth to power. He chose not to. |

1. I got on the Earthwing skateboards team this weekend. This is sort of hilariously ironic, as all my skate friends in high school wanted nothing more than to be sponsored while I didn't give a shit.
2. Smoking pot makes everything exciting the day of and dull the day after.
3. My photo teacher really likes my work. He has stuff in MoMA; so I'm psyched for real.
4. I love that my friends send me postcards and need to start doing that myself. |
